"Qur'an in a Year" - a great learning resource
Mostly for those who don't (yet) read Arabic, but you'll probably find it helpful even if you do.
Recent reverts and others who can’t yet understand Arabic often struggle with connecting to the Qur’an. That was me, although if you’ve read my recent posts you know that Allah SWT has made it easier for me.
Last year, right around this time of the Hijri year, I found the Divine Book Club, a project connected with QuranReflect.com and hosted by Shaykh Sohaib Saeed of Glasgow’s Ibn Ashur Centre. Each week, Shaykh and a group of students of the Qur’an gathered to discuss 1/46 of the Qur’an, as translated into English by M.A.S. Abdul Haleem. The translation was read aloud bit by bit, after which Shaykh and the students would comment on what had just been read. The resulting videos, which were beautifully produced, are available in a YouTube playlist.
This year’s initiative from QuranReflect is Qur’an in a Year. Each week, Shaykh Saeed shares a PDF that contains thoughtful annotations and reflection prompts on a section of the Qur’an in Shaykh Haleem’s translation. There’s also a link to the playlist for the Divine Book Club, which I recommend without reservation.
I’m participating, Insha Allah. I hope to keep to my post-Ramadan recitation goal of at least 1/2 hizb a day, but the additional social collaboration on reflections in my language will further enhance my connection with the Qur’an.
Just posted my first reflection, for week 1. We’re just getting started. Join us!
